GET TO KNOW CINDIE

IMG_6414.jpg

Growing up under the wings of her father’s Air Force career, bouncing from base to base, Cindie was inspired early on by cultures around her. New places meant new spaces! Seizing the opportunity, she not only created her own space, but family living spaces as well, with the help of her mom and with what little resources a youngster has. DIY was the game and sticking to budgets was the aim.

Cindie recalls, “Mom and I would spend hours scouring estate sales and second-hand shops searching for unique and interesting finds from mid-century wood chairs to objects-de-art.” Mulling over paint schemes, wallpaper patterns and carpet samples, Cindie showed a keen eye at an early age.

Mom saw the potential and encouraged her nine year old daughter to design her own bedroom. From those first fledgling steps, Cindie has been hooked by the ‘design-bug’ ever since. “Creating spaces and designing themes became her passion early on,” recalls Cindie’s mother.

Cultivating this passion, Cindie studied Art & Design at Iowa State University with a focus in Theatre. Moving to Austin in the early 90’s, she has created spaces for multi-million dollar corporations, chain retailers, theatre and dance troupes, Mom-and-Pop shops and worked as a freelance stylist for small businesses and home owners alike. Cindie soon was called upon to event plan and create art for events as well.

One of Cindie’s colleague states, “She just has a knack for finding the right piece; whether it be a multi colored wrap around couch, wall art or three tchotchkes to adorn a 40’s armoire.”

In her free time she enjoys rock climbing, swimming and biking. “If it’s outside, I love it,” she emphatically states with a sunny smile. On any give night, you might find her at a honky-tonk Texas two-stepping to local classic country acts. Or on weekends, searching for various forgotten treasures at area flea markets or antique shops.
